It is generally acknowledged on both sides of the political aisle that the Republican Party is facing major disaster potential in the 2018 mid-term elections. I decided to test my new Dilemma Assessment spread on this situation. I selected the Thoth Tower as the focus card (“The Dilemma”) and used the RWS Centennial Edition for the reading.
Most Americans are familiar with the Old West cliché of villains being “tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.” This is the scenario that many Republican incumbents are facing in November. The Tower is their worst nightmare come true. In applying this spread, I had to decide whose “hopes and fears” to assess in my analysis, since they are running wild on both sides. I chose the Republican viewpoint.
The Ace of Pentacles reversed in the “Hope” position shows that they expect to lose a little power but hopefully not too much. The Knight of Cups reversed in the “Fear” position make me think they are afraid they will wind up “in the middle of the ocean without a life preserver.” The 5 of Wands in the “Gain” position suggests they will “reap the whirlwind,” while the 9 of Cups in the “Loss” position looks like they will not be overly disappointed with the results. On the other hand, I call this the “fat, dumb and happy” card, so maybe they will be disabused of their rosy assumptions.
The Emperor in the “Full Recovery” quint position reflects that they should hang onto power, as does Strength in the “Minor Disability” quint position (probably on the coattails of the ongoing economic recovery), while the Empress reversed in the “Major Disability” quint position and the Chariot reversed in the “Partial Recovery” quint position indicate that they will be somewhat discomfited and have to sacrifice some mobility (although it doesn’t seem likely that the “wheels will fall off”). The first two are the more potent of the four quint cards.
The overall outlook in this reading is that the Democrats will make some inroads into Congressional dominance but probably not enough to turn the tide in their favor. The Republicans will face an even more rancorous legislative environment in the upcoming Congress. Next I’m going to try this spread with Donald Trump’s prospects for impeachment.
