Where Is Mollie? – A Missing-Person Reading (Final Update)

UPDATE: The body of Mollie Tibbetts was found in a cornfield in rural Poweshiek County, Iowa. She was discovered “on a farm” as suggested in the reading, but was probably not detained or murdered by a resident. In an interview this afternoon, authorities said the suspect, an illegal immigrant, had lived in the area for from four to seven years. The timing of her discovery was approximately 4.5 weeks from her disappearance as alluded to in the reading, not the “5 months” that normal timing techniques would indicate.

A 20-year-old University of Iowa student, Mollie Tibbetts, went missing while jogging in Brooklyn, Iowa on the evening of July 18.

I performed my “World of Hurt” missing-person spread to determine her status, whether she will be found and, if so, approximately when. For a person under 25, I use the first Page that shows up in the spread as the Significator; in this case it was the Page of Pentacles. The deck is the Golden Universal RWS.

The fourth position of the layout indicates that her health is not good (she may be injured or ill), and the Earth card suggests that she is “below ground” somewhere, maybe in a basement. It could also indicate “buried,” if not now then eventually if her health deteriorates, but the position doesn’t clearly show “deceased” at the time of the reading (interment would be more likely if the Page were reversed). The 2 of Swords in the “yes-or-no” position regarding the likelihood of her discovery is one of the “maybe” cards, offering no definite answer. The 5 of Cups in the timing position nominally reflects a 5-month period before anything new is learned. Timing with the tarot is highly suspect, so this could just as easily mean “5 weeks” as months.

The “narrative vignette” told by the cards is more glum. The Page of Pentacles implies that, wherever she is, she isn’t going anywhere, while the 2 of Swords quite literally shows her being held incommunicado and possibly blindfolded most of the time. The 5 of Cups is a card of emotional distress. The situation does not look encouraging.

Although I don’t show it, the quintessence card for this series is the Moon (11+2+5 = 18), and by further reduction the Hermit. The Moon does not bode well for illumination of her circumstances, and the Hermit suggests isolation. It’s possible she is being held in a remote location. The Hermit is another Earth card, representing Virgo and its connection  to agriculture; a farm in the country is one possibility. I will update this post when more is known.

UPDATE: Here is another news feed that seems to support the “farm” assumption:
