“Cheap Shots” #10: Who Are the Pros?

Since I first connected with other tarot enthusiasts on-line back in 2011, I’ve met numerous talented readers who have honed their craft to the point that they have successfully entered the ranks of professional diviners. In fact, these contacts encouraged me to return to public reading after many years away. On the other hand, I strongly suspect there are any number of 16-year-old girls (and a few boys) with good on-line skills and at least a smattering of tarot knowledge – if not necessarily much experience – who have set up shop to perform paid readings for other 16-year-olds. Not to ridicule their enterprising spirit, but the situation reminds me of the reverse of the South Park episode where the boys are in awe of a dominant World of Warcraft player whom they think is a very cool peer when in fact he’s a balding, sweaty, hairy-chested 45-year-old guy in a wife-beater t-shirt. My point is that in these times of internet anonymity, anyone with a couple of books can be a tarot expert. As the old Geico TV ad went, “It’s so easy a cave-man could do it!”
